The Apollo 11 UFO Encounter

For many years the subject of aliens and UFO’s was considered a topic that only children and the under-educated took seriously. In the last two decades this opinion has been almost completely reversed due to the now enormous amount of testimonies given by sources considered very credible. These sources include pilots of both commercial and military aircraft along with astronauts involved in the US space program and others. One such account that has made it way to the forefront in UFO lore is the sighting by the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission.

In July 1969, Apollo 11 blasted off from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida sending the first humans to land upon the moon’s surface. These humans were American astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin Eugene“Buzz”Aldrin.
During the eight day mission, the crew collectively and individually had sightings that they have since come to believe were possibly UFO’s flown or remotely operated by extraterrestrial beings.

Somewhere between the initial launch and mission mid-point, a cylindrical object was seen by Neil Armstrong out of the window of the Apollo 11 module. The object appeared to be keeping pace with the spacecraft. The astronauts initial thinking was that this might be the booster which has propelled the Apollo 11 spacecraft out of earth’s atmosphere and had somehow continued on beside them by sheer inertia. They radioed Mission Control for the location of the booster only to find out it was 6000 nautical miles behind them.

Two days later, more UFO’s were seen by the astronauts as they prepared the lunar module for its landing on the moon and then again by Michael Collins from the orbiter as Armstrong and Aldrin were on the moon’s surface. The following is taken from the transcript of the conversations that occurred during the Apollo 11 mission. It is of the conversation Collins had with Mission Control upon seeing the objects for a third time:

Columbia: Calling Houston. This is Columbia.
Houston: Go ahead, Columbia.
Columbia: I couldn't find the L. M. But I saw some weird small white objects. Co-ordinates are 0.3, 7.6 on the south west edge of the crater. If they're there they should have seen them too.

In an interview for a British UFO Documentary, Buzz Aldrin explained that they were very careful with what they said to Mission Control knowing the conversations were monitored by virtually everyone on earth with the capability to do so. “We were careful not to say the word UFO or anything like that. We were afraid that people would panic due to fear of aliens or the like and we would have to turn around and not complete the mission.” Aldrin said.

Buzz Aldrin has for many years been a believer in the existence of intelligent life elsewhere. He has spoken on many occasions on the topic and has even written a science-fiction book related to the subject called, Encounter at Tiber.

Adding to the mystery is the fact that some of the tape of the conversations during the Apollo 11 mission were lost. Almost from the time the three astronauts returned from the moon, there were copies of conversations that supposedly were captured by amateur radio operators in which the astronauts were heard to be talking about UFO’s. One such supposed transcript was published the September 1969 issue of National Bulletin Magazine in an article by Sam Pepper:

What was it, what the hell was it? That's all I want to know....
These. . . (garbled) . . .babies were huge, sir, they were enormous....
No, No, that's just field distortion....
Oh, God, you wouldn't believe it....
What...what...what the hell's going on? Whats the matter with you guys . . . ?
They're here, under the surface....
What's there.. .malfunction. . .Mission Control calling Apollo 11....
Roger, we're here, all three of us, but we've found some visitors....
Yeah, they've been here for quite a while judging by the installations....
Mission control, repeat last message....
I'm telling you, there are other spacecraft out there. They're lined up in ranks on the far side of the crater edge....
Repeat, repeat....
Let's get that orbit scanned and head home....
In 625 to the fifth, auto-relays set...My hands are shaking so bad....
Film...yes, the damned cameras were clicking away from up here...
Did you fellows get anything?
Had no film left by the time. . . (garbled) . . . three shots of the saucers, or whatever they were. . .may have fogged the film.
Mission Control, this is Mission Control...are you under way, repeat, are you under way? What's this uproar about UFOs? Over.
They're set up down there...they're on the moon... watching us....
The mirrors, the mirrors . . . you set them up, didn't you?
Yes, the mirrors are all in place. But whatever built those spacecraft will probably come over and pull 'em all out by the roots tomorrow....

The transcript was never able to be identified as coming from Apollo 11 and none of the three astronauts have verified its authenticity. Regardless of that fact, the testimonies by the Apollo 11 crew, as well as other astronauts like Gordon Cooper of the Mercury Program are helping to increase the public awareness of the credible existence of UFO’s and the possibility of extraterrestrial beings possibly monitoring the progression of the human race. If this proves to be the case it is only natural that these alien beings would be very interested in man’s first Endeavor to land on the moon.
